Goalkeeper training

Goalkeeper is a position, not only requiring skills, but courage and tactical nous. The keeper is not only the final line of defence, but is the keystone of the team, which tirelessly organises the defensive line to ensure the whole team functions as one. That is why our club proudly presents a specialised goalkeeper training program, tailored to refine the skills of aspiring goal keepers and elevate their game.

You may have seen a video or two of goalkeeping legends like Lev Yasin, Peter Schmeichel, Gianluigi Buffon, Oliver Khan, Manuel Neuer. Or of Aussie Legends Mark Bosnich, Matty Ryan and Mark Schwarzer, flying to make a diving save or throwing themselves at the feet of an oncoming striker to save their team from an approaching goal. The position of goalkeeping requires tactical and strategic skills.

As the game of football develops in the modern era, the goalkeeper is no longer a figure standing in one spot defending the goal throughout the match. The keeper actively engages left and right, forward and back, and assists the defenders in distributing the ball while also aggressively attacking the ball in the defensive role. All of this can only be done when the goalkeeper has the foundation of basic skills and techniques, knowledge of the game, and a clear understanding of the necessary positions to be in during threatening situations.

The club’s goalkeeping training program focuses on foundational skills such as ball handling and positioning through both isolated technical exercises designed to focus on individual skills. Additionally, the training includes game format exercises designed to teach multiple aspects of goalkeeping at once. Through the specialised training, the players will learn a variety of skills needed, including decision making, ball distribution and positional awareness.

To ensure optimal learning and development, our goalkeeper training program is offered to age groups starting from 10 years old and above. This allows for a better coach-to-player ratio, enabling individualised attention and tailored guidance. We understand the importance of integrating training sessions with regular team practices, which is why the goalkeeper training sessions are thoughtfully scheduled. Occurring occasionally, they provide aspiring keepers with opportunities to develop their skills while ensuring they still have ample time to train and bond with their teammates.

The journey of a goalkeeper is one of continuous growth and refinement. Through our goalkeeper training program, we aspire to cultivate the next generation of formidable goalkeepers who will rise to the challenge and make their mark on the field. We encourage all players who harbor an interest in developing their goalkeeping skills to seize this opportunity and join us.

Remember, the goalkeeper position holds a special place in the game. It is where heroes are made, miracles happen, and legends are born. Embrace the challenge, unlock your potential, and become the guardian of the goal. Together, we will shape the future of BTFC goalkeeping excellence.
